Most NBA Mock drafts are predicting that Darius Garland will get selected 4th overall by the Los Angeles Lakers. This is a sudden change as just weeks ago, Garland was projected a lot lower and Deandre Hunter was slated to be selected 4th.

There are rumors that the Lakers have already gave Garland a promise to be drafted. League execs believe that Garland either has a promise from the Lakers or that of the Suns at pick 6.

Now obviously if these rumors are true, then Lonzo must be on his way out of LA this Summer via trade. Or I could see Lavar Ball having a melt down and demanding a trade if Garland is selected by the Lakers.

Additional rumors have Lonzo being requested via trade from both the Suns and Bulls for packages surrounding their first round picks, 6 and 7 overall respectively. The Lakers would already be giving up on their 1st round 2nd overall draft pick from just two years ago. Lonzo has shown promise, especially defensively, and has shown some offensive flashes where you could see him being a good player in this league.

But if the Lakers do trade Lonzo for the 6th or 7th pick, then wouldn’t it make sense to take a gamble and select Deandre Hunter at pick 4 and then get their guy Garland at pick 6 or 7?
